Offshore Asia Sets All Time Attendance Record

120% Increase in Attendance Figures
Offshore Asia 2008 sets record attendance at the third annual conference and exhibition dedicated to Asia’s offshore oil and gas industry, held 17-19 March 2008 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The 2008 event attracted 5,000 participants from 57 countries – a dramatic 120% increase in attendance from the event’s last staging in Kuala Lumpur and a record high for its three-year history. Just under one third of total attendees visiting the show were from outside Malaysia.

John Royall, Group Vice President and Publisher of Offshore magazine, said, “Clearly, Offshore Asia has become recognized as the industry’s premier offshore event for Asia. We will continue to expand by offering superior technical content in the conference and an exhibit floor that shows leading technology solutions for the Asia offshore industry.”

More than 100 sponsors and exhibitors supported the event. Leading industry operators, suppliers, service providers, contractors and associations were all represented on the packed exhibition floor including: ABB, Acteon, Aker Kvaerner, Bluewater, Cameron, Clough, FMC, GE Oil & Gas, Oil States Industries, and Schlumberger. Crowds of visitors turned out for the exhibition on all three days and meetings were still being conducted when the exhibition finally closed its doors on 19 March.

Offshore Asia 2008, whose theme was “New Growth, Technology and Market Changes,” provided timely insight into the unique challenges of the Asian offshore arena – growth opportunities and changing operating conditions.

The high-level, multi-discipline conference featured high-ranking and distinguished chairs and speakers from across the globe, addressing more than 150 conference delegates with cutting-edge ideas and technical solutions for the industry. The program specifically targeted two highly-relevant industry areas: E&P Issues and Multiphase Pumping Technology.

For the first time in Asia, internationally-recognized Multiphase Pumping expert, Dr. Hisham Saadawi, presented his unique full-day educational and certification workshop on “Multiphase Pumping and Technologies” aimed at petroleum, production, facilities engineers, and operations and maintenance staff. The workshop proved a resounding success with professionals from around the world ultimately receiving its prestigious certificate of accomplishment.

Launching Subsea Technology Asia

In response to Asia’s growing demand for subsea equipment, skills, and technology, PennWell has incorporated Subsea Technology Asia as a new track in its industry-leading Offshore Asia Conference & Exhibition.

Analysts with energy consultants Infield Systems predict spending for subsea equipment and technology to grow by 82% during 2007-2011, with Asia likely to account for the highest rate of increase.

The Subsea Technology Asia addition to Offshore Asia brings to the event the latest technology, solutions, and lessons learned in subsea applications and innovation. Learn how to use the latest subsea solutions to develop deepwater fields, reduce costs, produce from marginal fields, increase production, and extend production from otherwise non-commercial discoveries.

Subsea Technology Asia joins other successful PennWell subsea conferences in bringing together the industry’s best and brightest minds.

Next year Offshore Asia will move to the state-of-the-art IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand, and will run 31 March – 2 April 2009.
